The Space Services And Function Construction In Academic University Library

Library has always be deemed to a significant part of school culture. Along with the improvement of information technology and the development of internet as well as various technological approaches, there are more complicated challenges come to academic libraries. Services in libraries should be promoted due to influence of external environment, requirements of self-development and changes of users' demand. The previous patterns of service which rely on papers sources such as collecting, borrowing and reading is no longer to chase after the trend of age. Nowadays, users need a kind of diversification service provided by libraries. First of all, users might collect information and resources they need conveniently and quickly. Secondly, communicating and discussing with other users. In the third place, users might enjoy comfortable and elegant reading environment. Lastly, they might take a comfortable break or entertainment when they are tired. Depend on these changes of demand, academic libraries should also make relative changes with it. Based on this background, this dissertation has analyzed the construction of space services to libraries in colleges and universities.In the first chapter, the research contents and innovation points of this dissertation have been clear through demonstrating the background of topic chosen, significance of research as well as research status of the field of space service of academic libraries. Moreover, it has defined the concepts of libraries' space and space service. Secondly, through adopting some methods to clear up and sort out problems which appeared in process of service development such as inductive reasoning, field observation and questionnaire. The third part of dissertation pointed out that the construction of space service of academic libraries is based on the demand of service transformation, influence of external knowledge environment, vision of structuring the third space in school and analysis of survey results. Fourth chapter, the last chapter, firstly suggested that there are six principles should be follow when academic libraries are proceed some kind of structure processed like distribution of service space and function designs. Afterwards, it listed several patterns of space service which academic libraries might carry out as well as illustrating their suggestions and effects. Lastly, certain functional designs have been made for construction of various spaces.Instead of selecting certain particular library as a instance for the design of construction of space service of academic libraries, this dissertation do the design by principles of structure, deployable spaces, functions and distribution, which possess a universality. Every libraries should structure selectively according to their conditions. Finally, hope this dissertation could give some helps to libraries who have the requirement of space service constructing.
