Electronic records has been a hot topic in the field of archives, it is very fragile compared to paper records.The information often been damaged or lost during storage, so it is an important issue which how to preserve the valuable electronic records for long-term,and pass along the historical value. This paper selects the comparative study of long-term preservation of electronic records, using theoretical knowledge combined with their excellent practical experience abroad, to explore a better way for the development of long-term preservation of electronic records.The full text is divided into five parts, the first part it introduce the background and significance, the article point of innovation, and the literature analysis method;In the second part it analyze the concept of electronic documents, and to defined the long-term preservation, providing theoretical basis for the article;The third part mainly compared on the macro level of long-term preservation of electronic records, including law, standards, policies, pattern;The fourth part mainly compared on the micro level of long-term preservation of electronic records, including project, system,format, technology.Through the comparative analysis between China and the United States in the long-term preservation of electronic records, to sum up the similarities and differences and to solve the problem in the related work that we are facing. In the fifth part,to analyzed enlightenment and come up with the ideas about how to develop the work about long-term preservation of electronic records, including how to build the whole law, and improve standards, establish a mechanism, promote the practice, choose a scientific technique and construct optimization mode. Ultimate goal is to promote the development the long-term preservation of electronic records.
