Vision is the main way for human to feel and understand the external world. Thus, help people to realize the situation awareness with a more intuitive and effective method and obtain the more powerful visual sensory experience has always been one of the most challenging tasks in human scientific research. In recent years, with the rapid development of computer, sensor and modern electronic technologies, the methods for acquiring and processing modern information have taken enormous changes, and their functions and performances have also improved greatly. Synthetic vision technology develops gradually under such background and has become the indispensable technique in the fields of military, aviation, navigation, meteorology, medicine and so on.This thesis is on the research of synthetic vision, and has deeply studied the automatic super viewing field image splicing technology, complex 3D large terrain modeling and displaying method, and the design and implementation of 3D flight visual simulation system. The main work of the thesis is as follows:Firstly, it gives a brief introduction about the synthetic vision, including its related concepts, research significance, development state and critical techniques. Then it makes a detailed discussion of feature-based registration method, and puts forward an automatic super viewing field image splicing algorithm for disordered image sequence, which is based on the phase correlation method and SURF features registration method. The proposed algorithm improves the efficiency of features detecting and accuracy of features matching obviously and obtains a satisfactory super viewing field splicing result.The paper makes a description about 3D visual modeling and real-time visual simulation technology, including the process of 3D modeling, the development procedure of 3D real-time visual simulation system, as well as the optimization display skills of real-time scene. The emphasized study is focused on the production process and key techniques of 3D large terrain modeling. And on the base of that, the complex 3D large terrain database is constructed by CTS and invoked dynamically by Vega Prime.Making use of the synthetic vision and computer simulation, a 3D flight visual simulation system contains a complex large terrain scene is designed and implemented, and the multi-windows scheme is adopt to display the whole flight process, including take off from airport and landing on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. The system is characterized with friendly interface, fluent running, verisimilar visual effects, real-time and interactive control.
