Visual simulation can realize flight course replay realistically, by means of constructing three-dimensional model of goal object and exhibiting actual environment based on the purpose of simulation, using computer graphic technologies. Compared with the traditional method which has some disadvantages such as high cost and long periods, visual simulation provides flight research with a visual and convenient approach.The method of gathering flight data is discussed. The orbit-generate module can provide visual simulation system with orbit data. In this module, the communication mechanism of FIFO is adopted to implement messages in and out. To improve real-time in controlling the emulator (rotating platform), multithread technology is taken to achieve gathering data from Inertial Measure Unit (IMU).In 3-D simulation system development, the principal technology is studied and the implementation of visual simulation is mainly focused in this thesis. The flight simulation is realized based on OpenGL and Object Oriented Programming, including object modeling using Milkshape3D, fractal terrain, spherical sky, wake flame based on particle system, texture mapping, and real-time drive to 3-D model using timer and model transferring technology. Also, the posture of plane can be observed multi-angle.
