Yaozhou kiln was historically a famous northern kiln site. Yaozhou ceramics were serviced as tributary porcelains and sold overseas which broke the pattern of celadon wares dominating the South and white wares the North. Yaozhou kiln started firing porcelains in Tang dynasty and reached its peak in the closing years of Northern Song dynasty, thus becoming the representative of northern celadons as well as leaving a glorious page in the world ceramic art history.Yaozhou ceramics are considered as an intangible cultural heritage, whose non-material feature displays that the core is not about the products themselves but lies in the culture underlying every of them. Therefore, the primary purpose of the display is to guide the visitors to learn about the deep cultural information and the process then inherit the culture through their participation. This paper, based on digital techniques and multimedia techniques, is aimed to put forward ideas about 3D virtual display for Yaozhou ceramics by the concept of experience economy. Specific work and achievements are as follows.(1) This thesis concluds the basic principles of how to make 3D virtual display for Yaozhou porcelains with efforts by analysis to current situation of the research and protection, of the virtual display technique and of the virtual display for cultural heritage along with analysis to the research of visitors coming to Yaozhou Kiln Museum and the college students'desire for thematic museums.(2) Through exploration of the shape, pattern and workmanship from works handed down and samples unearthed, the paper revealed the artistic characteristics of Yaozhou porcelains to offer some cultural contents to ceramic products for digitization and virtual display.(3) By comparison to a variety of virtual display technologies and methodologies, we found a suitable technique to porcelains for 3D virtual display. A method to gain 3D data for the artistic features of Yaozhou ceramics was produced by an experiment with backward and forward modeling. As a result, it will support the realization of the 3D virtual display both in technology and content. Meanwhile, it will provide data for information sharing, preservation and restoration and archaeological research of Yaozhou ceramics.(4) With a design for Yaozhou ceramic 3D virtual display system, some success was achieved by some practice with Unity 3D to give a digitalized display for Yaozhou ceramics.
