Building energy consumption accounts for 27% of the total energy consumption of the whole commodities in China, and the heating energy consumption of buildings distributed in the northern part accounts for a major part. The utilizing of the monitoring technology for the research of residential building heating energy consumption characteristics changing over time which targets for improving the thermal performance of residential buildings in the northern part and reducing the building energy consumption is of great significance. Meanwhile, the development of networking technology provides a feasible approach for the online monitoring of building energy consumption, which is also known as an inevitable trend.Therefore, we have developed a set of embedded monitoring system for the real-time monitoring of energy consumption of the envelope targeting for the buildings in the northern part of China and the specific contents are as followed:1. This paper introduces the concept and the principle of the real time heat consumption calculation of the envelope of the residential buildings. In order to guarantee the communication stability of the wireless sensors, after carefully selection we choose Wi-Fi protocol as the communication protocol utilized by the sensor and heat loss monitoring instruments.2. Considering the particularity of the calculation of the real-time heat consumption, a method that the temperature data be uploaded at a regular time many times during the sample time has been developed.3. The core board with S5PV210 CORTEX-A8 processor is used as the core module of the collection device and the peripheral hardware resources have been detailed introduced with the schematic of each part. ESP8266 module, which works as the core processor with other peripheral circuits fabricating the Wi-Fi based temperature sensors.4. This paper introduces the overall design of the acquisition software of the monitoring device and its developing process under WinCE6.0 operating system, at the same time the software working process of the Wi-Fi temperature sensors has also been introduced.5. The stability of the Wi-Fi communication between temperature sensors and the monitoring device has been tested and the results have been analyzed. The basic functions of the hardware systems and software have also been tested.A specific building is selected for the acquisition test and the test results have been analyzed.This work has an important academic significance for the improving of China’s residential building envelope heat consumption detection level and the evaluation and analysis of its thermal performance. It has a great practical significance not only for the further development of network monitoring technology and practical applications, but also for the real-time, accurate and comprehensive evaluation of the envelope thermal performance of residential building by providing new theoretical methods and technical measures.
