Energy is not only an important strategic resource of countries, but a major factor that restricts the development of the national economy as well. Buildings are essential carriers of people’s lives and economic development. Nowadays, building energy consumption as a proportion of total energy consumption is increasing. Building energy saving is imperative. Under the conditions that the MOHURD (Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Department of the People’s Republic of China) issued a series of guidance on building energy efficiency and building energy monitoring, building energy monitoring technology has come into being. As the basis for building energy strategy formulation, building energy monitoring technology is so closely related to intelligent buildings, computer and communication technologies and its research value is increasingly prominent. The development of networking technology and smart buildings provide a new direction for building energy monitoring. Building energy strategy formulation based on building energy consumption data is still in the stage of exploration and experience accumulation.In this paper, with building energy consumption monitoring as the object of study and building energy saving as the final purpose, the hardware of building energy consumption wireless monitoring system based on Wi-Fi network communication is designed. In this system, Wi-Fi technology is applied to building energy consumption monitoring for the first time. And then the scheme of Wi-Fi-based building energy consumption wireless monitoring is proposed. This scheme takes the advantages of the maturity and popularity of Wi-Fi technology in public buildings. In this way, the cost of network cables can be saved. Meanwhile, the building energy consumption can be monitored in real-time and historical energy consumption can be checked. To tap the potential of the building energy saving, the model and forecast of building energy consumption in a short term are done through the study of the patterns and influencing factors of building energy consumption. After that, adding the idea of energy use quota to building operation management is proposed. In this case, not only the experience of energy use quota can be gained, but the reference data can be provided for building energy saving as well.The following work has been done in this paper:proposing a simple and short computing time method to simulating building electrical energy consumption by analyzing the influence factors of it with the MIV algorithm and verifying the feasibility and correctness by using BP neural network to simulate the proposed model, improving the prediction accuracy by optimizing the Levenberg-Marquardt training algorithm and providing the prediction accuracy and stability through MATLAB simulation, designing and making the wireless communication system hardware based on Wi-Fi technology and TCP/IP protocol, designing the PC application of the system on the Lab VIEW platform including the procedure of communication, data reception, database operation, data query, display and so on, meanwhile completing the combining of monitoring system and building electrical energy consumption model through MATLAB Script in LabVIEW platform, so the reference data of energy use quota on PC application.Building energy consumption of wireless monitoring system combines the advantages of Wi-Fi wireless communication which it can collect the subentry electrical energy consumption wirelessly, build a monitoring system without wiring construction and be able to dock with the general energy consumption measuring equipment, and it is easy to large-scale promotion because of the simple structure, flexible configuration and low hardware cost. The test shows that the communication between PC software and lower computer hardware is unobstructed and each part of system runs well and stably.
