With all-round and deep reforms in the systems of economy, politic, culture, society and ecological civilization, the operation and management of the traditional Chinese mass media have also been undergoing changes in things like survival mode, business mode, industrial position and broadcasting ideas. Under such circumstance, the newspaper industry market face both opportunities and challenges, and many news agencies are keeping exploring appropriate operational strategies and ways of developing.In face of intense market competition, Women Today Weekly, the first professional female newspaper in Hunan, not only developed its own brand in the field of media but also implemented cross-sectoral business such as real estate, transportation and cosmetics successfully, and its success, was called as "Women Today Weekly". Taking Women Today Weekly as research subject, this paper gained a deep knowledge of the business ideas of Women Today Weekly by combining case analysis with comparative study. Based on the study on the formation and development of the business ideas of Women Today Weekly, the implementation of the ideas and its influence on the operation of the entire newspaper, the following ideas are put forward:the most effective way for the newspaper to keep competitive is to carry on the strategy of differentiation and insist on the general idea of characteristic management.
