Cooperative learning has become increasingly popular with the revolution of new curriculum and the development of Quality-oriented Education and a large numbers of experts and scholars have conducted many experiments and researches. However, few of their studies have referred to the current situation of the implementation of cooperative learning set in a new background------“The Class to Release Students' Potential”, which has been required to be carried out in the author's school, is never studied before. Therefore, the author decides to take Haitou Senior High School, where the author works, as an example to make an investigation and the research questions are as follows:Firstly, what are students' and teachers' attitudes towards the implementation of cooperative learning and what's the positive effect of it?Secondly, how do teachers apply cooperative learning in English class?Thirdly, what are the existing problems in the process of the implementation of cooperative learning?In order to address these three questions, the author has adopted three approaches------Questionnaire, which includes student questionnaire and teacher questionnaire, Interview, including student interview and teacher interview, and Classroom Observation to obtain some reliable data and information. In total, there are10 teachers, who are the colleagues of the author coming from three different grades,and 30 students, who come from different grades in Haitou Senior High School,involving in the interviews. After the interviews, the contents of the interviews are recorded with their permission so that the author can make a thorough analysis of them.In addition, the author has observed 30 classes for about 4 months to attain a thorough understanding of the implementation of cooperative learning.As for the research results, they can be listed as follows: First of all, a great majority of the teachers and students interviewed keep positive attitudes towards the implementation of cooperative learning and most of the students hold the opinion that they have benefited a lot from cooperative learning. Secondly, as for how teachersapply cooperative learning, teachers first divide students into several groups before carrying out cooperative learning and then students are required to discuss with their group members to deal with their problems. If they cannot solve the problems, teachers will provide them some assistance or guidance so that the teaching and learning objectives of their class will be accomplished. Last but not least, there still exist some problems in the process of the implementation of cooperative learning. For example,some of the learning groups haven't been divided properly and students of the same group or members in different groups cannot compete with each other equally. What's more, some teachers are lacking in some relevant teaching theories and they haven't paid enough attention to the differences among different students and so on. Therefore,in order to make cooperative learning more effectively, the author provides some suggestions.
