A Survey On The Current Situation Of Cooperative Learning In English Teaching In Senior High Schools

This thesis investigates the current situation of cooperative learning application and teachers' inclination and students' inclination on cooperative learning,aiming at learning about and analyzing the practical situation,acquiring pedagogical implications and providing targeted and constructive teaching suggestions.Cooperative learning has profound theoretical basis and history,and there are three research centers around the world: Johnson group,Slavin group and Sharan group.The research objects are 112 students and all of English teachers in Yuhua Senior High School in Mudanjiang City.The research methodologies are questionnaire and interview.The qualitative and quantitative analysis of the results answer two research questions: 1.How about the current situation of cooperative learning application in English teaching? 2.What are teachers' inclination and students' inclination on cooperative learning?Overall,most teachers and students have positive and approbatory attitude to cooperative learning.However,teachers are short of theoretical support of the cooperative learning.The aspects of cooperative skill,grouping and positive interdependence are still less than perfect.For the inclination,teachers select cooperative learning strategies according to practical situation and their understanding.Teachers have unique insight towards cooperative learning.Overall,teachers are fond of such cooperative strategies that the nearby students collaboratively discuss a certain topic.For current cooperative learning strategies,the popularity degree from high to low are: GI,TGT,L.T.,Jigsaw,S.A.and STAD.Moreover,students provide nine constructive suggestions and reasonable request on cooperative learning,covering teachers' role,grouping way,discussion way,scoring way,learning atmosphere and teaching methods.
