With the full implementation of New Curriculum Reform of geography teaching in junior middle school, there are new and higher requirements for the geography teaching in junior middle school. The key points of our country's New Curriculum Reform are to realize students' all-round development through educational teaching process, to cultivate students' geographical practice ability and self-inquiry awareness, allowing them to develop the independent inquiry-based learning ability during the process of geography learning gradually. The ultimate goal of today's geography learning in junior middle school is to improve students' overall quality and moral integrity, so that they can adapt to development requests in the future more easily. But under the present education conditions, geography teaching, in junior middle school is not classified into entrance examination for senior high school, so parents and students don't pay enough attention to geography learning in junior middle school .The students' initiative and autonomy of learning ability are desired to be improved, especially in the districts and schools with relative poor student resource. With the further reform of our country's education, how to promote students' geography learning interest and initiative and guide them into the geography learning within the shortest time have become the common hot issues for the vast geography teachers and all junior middle schools.So, this paper is in the light of many years of geography teaching experience in junior middle school and analyzes the application modes and its supplementary roles of songs in geography teaching so as to find out the better teaching modes using songs in junior middle schools' geography teaching process. And also this paper is beneficial to the empirical study of curriculum reform and overall promotion of quality-oriented education.This paper mainly discusses the application of songs in junior middle school geography textbook (Hunan Edition), which is adopted by the Southeast of Guizhou Province's schools. In order to verify the specific application mode and its teaching effect of songs in geography teaching, this paper selects two classes as its experimental subjects:one employs songs in geography teaching (hereunder referred to as Experimental Class),while the other one (hereunder referred to as Control Class) does not. Except for pictures,videos, flash animations and other teaching materials, different songs are chosen in Experimental Class according to different teaching contents from Grade 7, however, the Control Class doesn't apply songs in geography teaching. There is a test to check students' learning effect after a period of geography learning (completion of one chapter usually), besides this, the final examination results of two classes will be compared at the end of each semester so as to conclude the song's effect in geography teaching in junior middle school and put forward some relevant strategies for geography teachers for reference.
