In the course of preparing history lessons of grade eight,some problems emerged in terms of the description of empress dowager Cixi in the textbook.In general,junior middle school history textbooks adopt a description method,named “to the system of people”,without out a special and systematic description on historical figures.So the textbook was short of breadth and depth on historical figures description.It leads that,to a certain extent the junior high school student cannot understand the historical figures comprehensively and accurately.In order to fully grasp the image of the empress dowager Cixi and find out the defects of textbook in portraying the empress dowager Cixi,this thesis,based on current history textbooks and recent research results in the history field attempts to respectively tease out the image of the empress dowager Cixi.And then compare and induce the difference between the two,and analysis the reason that the image of the empress dowager Cixi are defective in the textbook.In order to reduce the adverse effect on students in the aspect of textbook's defects in portraying characters,history teachers should pay attention to deepen the textbook content and make up for the deficiency of history textbooks in portraying characters in practical teaching.
