The exceptional child is a vulnerable group with universal attention.Because of their hearing,intellectual and psychological defects,they can't have a successful communication with others like ordinary people.Besides,there are more difficulties and challenges before them,which will make them more prone to negative and unilateral mental health problems.If guidance and correcting are failed to take prompt action,it will be very likely that they go into a wrong road.As an indispensable part in special education,special fine art education plays a decisive role in improving their cognitive ability,developing their potential and training their art abilities.Its rich colors and varied forms can to a largest extent offset their defects.Besides,the rich and interesting teaching contents and also the relaxing and delightful class atmosphere can make special children be more easily welcome to and interested in the learning.At the same time,they can gain psychological counseling in special art education,which will contribute to recovering their physical and mental health.Therefore,it is of great importance for special education.Based on survey research,I write this paper according to the practical situation of special education schools in Xinyang city.Several methods including documentary analysis,observation,questionnaire and interview are adopted.There are totally 10 such schools in Xinyang,including 6 comprehensive schools and 4 professional schools for the deaf and mute,which are mainly located surrounding the urban area of Xinyang or in its subjective counties and districts.Students in such schools are mainly children with mid and heavy-term degree of intellectual disability or the deaf and mute children.And such schools mainly adopt concentrated teaching methods and boarding system.In the survey,I find that most students are from poor families.Their teachers reflect that most of them are self-contemptuous,radical and extreme due to their own defects and long-term heavy or light mental problems.Their art teachers also reflect that 85% deaf and mute students like art class and can actively participate in it.Besides,many children have such talents.All of these prove that art education has great positive effects.As China's social economical standard gradually improves,public policies begin to be more conductive to social vulnerable groups.Attention to special children and groups can also embody social civilization.Although the government gradually improves and formulates polices and regulations related to the recover education of special children,its status quo is still not optimistic,because Henan province is relatively backward with complicated situation and there are more special children.Xinyang falls behind with Henan's economy,so such situation is especially obvious.My visits to several special education schools produce this investigation results.Especially for such schools in Xinyang,I have obtained detailed knowledge of their development status and existing problems.I expect that I can provide operable ideas and proposals for Xinyang's special education schools and also offer references to other cities in Henan.
