| With deepening economic globalization,China and the world economic development are going hand in hand,which means the international economic situation will cause tremendous impact on China.For ordinary individuals,it’s becoming more and more necessary to secure their future under the circumstances of unstable economic changes.Financial management has become an important tool for people to protect their property.With the help of financial management,people can deal with their possession,cultivate logical consumption view,and secure their wealth in case there appear economic problems.However,the idea of personal finance is not so popular as that in western countries.Thus,the author of this report believes the translation of practical financial text book will improve Chinese people’s knowledge of financial management,their competence of wealth management,as well as the power of social economic sound development.In a word,financial management has great significance on both the whole society and every individual.In this thesis,the author selects the book Plan Now,Retire Happy: How to Secure Your Future Whatever The Economic Climate as samples for analysis.Based on the author’s personal translation experience,this thesis,in the form of translation report,analyzes the text types and translation strategies according to Peter Newmark’s semantic translation and communicative translation.Newmark classifies texts into six types: expressive,informative,vocative,aesthetic,phatic,and metalingual texts,and he stated that the former three are the main types.Besides,he also believes that any text has more than one single function.Under his classification,the book Plan Now,Retire Happy: How to Secure Your Future Whatever The Economic Climate is a typical representative of informative texts.Under the guidance ofsemantic translation and communicative translation,the author analyzes the translation at three levels,namely,lexical,syntactic and discourse level.Then the author briefly concludes the translation methods of financial textbooks.The author thinks that translation of financial texts should follow the principles of accuracy,acceptability and standardization.In the report,the author holds that the semantic translation should be mainly practiced in translating terminologies.To be specific,literal translation should be used to reproduce the precise meaning of the SL.At lexical level,addition,omission and conversion should also be introduced.At syntactic level,division,inversion,change of voices should be employed so that TL readers can share the same ideas as the SL readers.At discourse level,careful analysis of the context should be a better choice in dealing with its discourse characters.Via a case study,this report has proved the feasibility of semantic translation and communicative translation in improving the quality of financial textbooks translation. |
