Finance is the core of modern economy, and the banking industry takes the dominant position in the financial system. With the rapid development of the financial industry, the research on the credit risk of banks has attracted more and more attention. The source text for the translation practice is selected from the first chapter of the handbook Rating Credit Risk, issued by Office of the Comptroller of the Currency(OCC).As an informative text, its translation strives for accurate and effective delivery of information.Semantic and communicative translation mainly emphasize the accuracy of expression and integrity of information as well as effective delivery of information in translation. In this translation practice, taking semantic translation and communicative translation as the theoretical guidance helps improve the translation quality.Based on analysis of the features of the source text, the author takes communicative and semantic translation as the guidance, and proposes principles of accuracy, economy, integrity of information and idiomaticness in the target language. The translation practice is completed under the guidance of the principles. In the translation report, the author elaborates on the problems encountered in the translation practice and their solutions from lexical, syntactic and discourse level through case studies.Techniques adopted in the translation are discussed,in hope of providing reference for translation of similar texts.Specifically,on lexical level, conversion of word classes, addition and simplification are suggested to translate polysemy, terms, compound words and acronyms. On syntactic level, amplification, sentence pattern adjustment and splitting are adopted to deal with passive voice, sentences with nominalizational phrase and long sentences. On discourse level, repetition, omission, conversion and restitution are applied to ensure cohesion and coherence of the translated text.
