A Report On Chinese-English Translation Of Ofo Users Service Agreement

In the era of globalization,sharing economy has emerged and boomed with the development of mobile Internet,the third-party payment platform,big data,cloud computing,the surplus of unoccupied resources and other factors.Besides,with the emergence of a large number of physical sharing platforms such as Uber,Airbnb and its demand of the general public,sharing economy has become an irresistible trend,with ofo shared bikes as its typical representative.Up to December 2017,ofo has come to an agreement with twenty countries to provide its services.In such a context,the user service agreement plays an increasingly important role.At present,the researches and documents on the translation of service agreements in China are insufficient.The report on Chinese-English translation of ofo Users Service Agreement,which belongs to the scope of contract translation,is completed under the guidance of Skopos theory.Contract texts are legal English with high specialization.As the legally-binding contract involves the interests of two parties and stipulates obligations and responsibilities of them,all progress made in a transaction is built on the signing of contract.To this end,translators shall take their work seriously.The delivery of any ambiguous information is not allowed.Slightly ignorance will cause legal disputes,damaging the interests of both parties.Accordingly,the translator makes reference to some materials concerning contract translation to get access to methods and skills of contract translation and finds proper translation of terminologies in the original text by appreciation of translations of other contracts.The translator solves the problems arising from Chinese-English translation and puts forward corresponding translation methods by using examples of analysis,providing effective translation guidance strategies for such professional documents.The translator first translates the User Service Agreement after keeping the general idea of the contract and core point of each clause in mind.The translation report falls into five parts.The first part introduces the background,source text and the structure of the report;the second part mainly overviews the theoretical basis that guides this translation practice--Skopos theory,and analyzes the linguistic features of the source text lexically,syntactically and textually;The third part expounds the whole translation process,including preparation before translation,translation process and revision after translation;Based on the translated version of the contract,the fourth part--the key point of this translation report--mainly analyzes and solves the difficulties encountering in translation,including special terms,legal words,verbs,long sentences,declarative sentences and formal text.As to these difficulties,some examples are presented to analyze the translation strategies and skills of this Chinese-English translation task from the lexical and syntactical perspectives under the guidance of the Skopos theory.The strategies include wording,conversion,combination,literal translation and addition and omission,etc.;Lastly,a summary is given in the fifth part,the attainment experience is included,the problems to be solved are discussed and the obtained inspirations in the translation for future-translated texts are summarized.
