A Report On Chinese-to-English Translation Of A Completion Agreement And A Financing Agreement

China has viewed an increase in cooperation with the rest of the world since it deepened the reform and opening-up from 1978.Some necessary processes in these cooperations,drafting,negotiating,and signing contracts and agreements,have also been attached great importance and seen as a bridge for the work no matter in the aspect of politics,economics,or culture.With the increasing demand for translation and translators in law and contracts,more and more multilingual professionals are paying more attention to this field.This report discusses the key points in Chinese-English agreement translation under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,from the aspects of the lexical,syntactic,and textual features based on a project including a completion agreement and a financing agreement.There are four chapters in this report.Chapter One briefs the necessary information on the project at first,such as the content,background,and meaning.In the second chapter,it states the process of translating,including preparations,theory choosing,translation,revision,and final polishing.The most crucial part is in Chapter Three,and it analyzes many cases of both difficulties and strategies.The last chapter,chapter four,summarizes the content of this report and gives suggestions for the contract translation.This report analyzes some concrete cases to help the readers understand the application of Nida’s functional equivalence theory on contract translation and also study this field of translation further.
