A Report On C-E Translation Of A Corporate Financial Business Service Agreement Based On Functional Equivalence Theory

This is an report on the translation of a Corporate Financial Business Service Agreement,which is assigned by the author's internship unit.The source text contains three parts,Electronic Banking Enterprise Customer Service Agreement,Online Payment Service Agreement,and Customer Service Agreement on Corporate Financial Service Platform(Internet Finance).The translation task is a collaboration work between the translator and the proofreader.The main content of this agreement is definition clauses,involving large amount of definitions and explanation on service agreement items,as well as professional legal terms.The entrusting party requires the translation to be accurate in terms of words and use the language in accordance with the specifications,so as to ensure the fluency of the translation and the equivalence of semantics,style and literary form.This report is divided into six chapters.The first chapter introduces the translation task from content,background,source and the requirement of the commissioner.The second chapter describes the translation process from pre-translation,translation and post-translation.The third chapter introduces the Functional Equivalence Theory and its feasibility and application on this translation task.The fourth chapter illustrates the content and type of the selected text and analyzes the linguistic features from the lexical and syntactic levels.In the fifth chapter,the author summarizes corresponding solutions for the difficulties encountered during the translation process.The final chapter is conclusion,in which the author summarizes the experience obtained from the translation process and indicates the limitations and suggestions.Aiming at the difficulties in the translation process and combining with specific examples,the author summarized the following solutions: technical terms and modal auxiliaries are translated literally;demonstrative pronouns are translated through omission and substitution;conditional clauses are translated by restructuring to highlight the key information;for run-on sentences,the method of combination can be used to simplify the structure.The author also suggests to convert the active voice of certain sentences into passive voice in view of passive voice is regarded as objective and widely accepted by English legislator.The author tries to provide some guidance and suggestions for the translation of such legal texts while summarizing the translation methods and techniques of this agreement.
