Business contract or agreement is a legal document signed, to conduct a certain business, by and between the relevant parties in business activities. With the acceleration of the process of economic globalization, a large number of business contracts are transmitted among people speaking different languages. Therefore, the translation of business contracts plays a critical role in business and trade activities. However, the translation of business contract or agreement in China is not so good: the Chinese versions of many English business contracts are not easy to read for there are many “Europeanized” Chinese sentences in the translation version, and there even are some incorrect expressions. So the study of business contract or agreement translation is significant in theory and practice. In this report, taking for example the translation, under the guidance of Text Typology and Skopos Theory, of The Sale and Purchase Agreement between Amer Land Pte. Ltd. and PSD Holdings Pte. Ltd. and Pacific Star Development Pte. Ltd., the author analyzes the features of business contracts, the differences of Chinese and English text and the skopos of the client, and tries to summarize and apply the principles and strategies to translate business contracts. The thesis includes the English version, the Chinese version, the report and the bibliography, and the report is subdivided into four sections: the description of the translation, translation procedures, analysis of cases and conclusion. In the report, the author introduces the information of this translation practice firstly and then summaries the practice and experience of translating under the guidance of Text Typology and Skopos Theory by presenting the details in pre-translation, translation process and post-translation activities, the analysis and reverbalization of the difficult points and the conclusion of this translating practice. In the part of cases analysis, the author focuses on the features and translation strategies of long sentences, conditional clauses and passive sentences, and in this way provides readers with some thoughts in translating English business contracts.
