A Practice Report On English-Chinese Translation Of News Report

News translation has always been an important means of news communication.As the exchanges between countries grow more frequently than they used to be,a number of domestic readers are eager to read the news coverage of mainstream media from foreign count ries.Hence,the status of news translation requires attaching our great significance.This thesis conducts research on English news writing and its Chinese translation strategies on the basis of a case study of news report — “the Chinese-American Former Police Officer Peter Liang Kills Akai Gurley”.Firstly,this thesis makes a brief review of the current research status of English-Chinese news translation at home and abroad.Next,the translation of words and sentences is meticulously elaborated and analyzed based on a clear exposition of the linguistic features of the source text.In terms of words,this thesis focuses on the usage and translation strategies of technical terms,acronyms,numerals,reporting verbs,midget words and English vague terms.Meanwhile,it also emphasizes news headlines of sentence-type,passive voice and long sentences with regard to sentence structures.And some approaches to problems of sentence translation are also concluded in this thesis.Finally,it summarizes the features and methods of English news translation.It is hoped to provide English-Chinese news translators with references so as to help enhance their translation quality.
