A Report On The Translation Of The News On The Official Website Of Tianjin University From The Perspective Of Peter Newmark’s Translation Theory

As the economic globalization is deepening,there are more and more cultural exchanges among countries.This trend has profoundly affected the development direction of China’s higher education.In recent years,domestic universities are eager to strengthen communication and cooperation with universities around the world,therefore,they have enhanced their international influence by establishing English official websites.In the construction of the websites,most of the news is translated from Chinese official website content,so translation activities plays a decisive role.The reporter was commissioned by the International Media Center of Tianjin University to participate in the translation of the news on the website.This report was based on the Chinese-English translation practice.The whole translation process was guided by Newmark’s translation theory.According to text types and translation purposes,the task texts were translated by both semantic translation strategy and communicative translation strategy.While previous studies of the application of Newmark’s translation theory to the news translation focused more on communicative translation strategy than semantic translation strategy,taking into consideration the application of both the two strategies is the innovation of this study.This report enumerates and analyzes specific examples from the task texts in lexical and syntactic aspects in detail,and explains the different translation techniques and methods used under the guidance of the two strategies.Through the analysis,it is found that the joint use of the two translation strategies can effectively improve the quality of news translation and ensure its accuracy and readability.This report consists of four parts: The first chapter briefly introduces the source and background of the task,the type of text and the requirements of the client.The whole process of translation is briefly described in terms of time in the second chapter.The third chapter focuses on case analysis and explains the significant guidance provided by Newmark’s theory.Finally,the reporter summarizes in the last chapter the experience and deficiencies of this practice.
