This is a project report on the translation of Life in China?Part II:Chapter I?.Life in China was authored by William Charles Milne, one of the missionaries who came to China in the 19th century. In this book, the author recorded his experiences and observations in China. In Chapter I of Part II,the missionary mainly described his experiences in Ningbo. The project report is of deep academic significance in the following three aspects.First,it can be instrumental in the research into China's modern history and Sino-western cultural exchanges.Second,it can contribute to the study into China's culture in the 19th century.Third, scholars in the field of religion can obtain valuable historical data from the project report,as the author was a well-known missionary who came to China to do religious work, and this chapter contains descriptions about Mohammedanism in China.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory, the translator adopted some translation skills to make the rendering more natural and coherent. The source text belongs to informative text, and thus,it's hoped that those who deal with similar texts can find the project report useful.
