This is a project report on the translation of the fourth chapter “Privacy and Educational Information” of the book Privacy: What Everyone Needs to Know authored by Leslie P.Francis and John G.Francis.Leslie P.Francis is Distinguished Professor of Philosophy,and John G.Francis is Professor of Political Science at the University of Utah.This book has ten chapters,analyzing the protection of privacy covering health,education,the Internet,etc..And the chapter the translator chose discusses the privacy of educational information.This chapter mainly elaborates what educational information is,why we need to protect our educational information,when we should reveal our information and what legal protections the laws provide,etc..According to Katharina Reiss' s text typology,the source text is categorized into informative texts.The translation of such texts should focus on accuracy and readability.This report is under the guidance of Eugene.A.Nida's Functional Equivalence Theory.On the basis of the combination of theory and practice,the translator has gained much experience in the process of translating.At the same time,the translator also encountered some difficulties,and to resolve these problems,the translator has applied some translation methods such as inversion,conversion,etc.
