Consecutive Interpreting In The Engineering Construction Of Wet’n’ Wild Water Park Of Mission Hills In Haikou City

This report is based on the interpreter’s consecutive interpreting experience in the engineering construction of Wet’n’Wild Water Park of Mission Hills in Haikou City.The interpreter was engaged in the project from February 25th to May 5^th,2017.It was an engineering project interpretation of water park construction and the interpreter was required to provide on-site dialogue interpreting for clients,site managers,foreign engineers and Chinese workers to transfer the information about construction problems and their daily communication.Afterward,through analyzing the recordings of his on-site interpreting,the author enumerated many problems encountered in the process of interpretation,such as unfamiliar terminology and long sentences,and explored possible solutions under the guidance of Interpretive Theory,aiming to provide some valuable suggestions for future the interpreting task in this field.This thesis is composed of six chapters.Chapter I is an introduction to the water park project,which includes the project information and the requirements for the interpreter on this task.Chapter II explores the preparation before interpreting,including terminology preparation,communicating with foreign engineers,etc.Chapter III is a detailed analysis of the interpreting process and problems encountered in reproduction,such as grammar errors,misinterpretation and pretermission,hesitation and self-correction and complaints between workers and foreign engineers.Chapter IV is the case study of interpreting skills employed under the guidance of Interpretive Theory,including generalization,omission and subtraction,and using pronouns.Chapter V explores coping tactics on site adopted by the interpreter.Chapter VI is evaluation of this task from three perspectives:self-evaluation,evaluation from clients,evaluation from peer interpreters.The last chapter is a conclusion about this task and how interpreters can perform better in similar projects.
