UN Year Book Translation is one highlight of MTI Program courses in Soochow University. It has beensix years since the project was launched in 2010.The author has been a translator of the documents and a beneficiary of this project.UN Year Book is a window to spread across the world the information from UN,from which we learn more about the efforts that UN has devoted to human undertakings.By reporting this translation project, the author would like the world to also know aboutthe support of translators for UN work. When translating UN Year Book,we pay much attention to what we call“faithfulness” and “accuracy,”the two criteria we follow during our translation process.Based on different texts and content,Newmark divides texts into expressive, informative and vocative texts.Information text is found to seldom carry personal vestige, and always faithfully and smoothly conveys the text meaning. Therefore,UN Year Book can be summarized as information-based text. This report, guided by text typology, discusses strategies translating UN Yearbook from the perspective of faithfulness and accuracy in information-based texts.Taking UN Year Book(2011)as an example, this thesis aims at making a brief introduction of the working process, analyzingthemain problems encountered during translating and their countermeasures.Hopefully the project report provides references for translation of similar documents. This project report is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is task description. In this chapter, the project background, theoretical basis and text description are introduced. The second chapter is the implementation of the project. It describes the process of implementing this translation project and the difficulties encountered in the translation. The third chapter is case analysis, which reports in detail the translation methods and techniques used in the translation. The last chapter is conclusion and the author’s personal reflections.
