By The study on the cultural meaning of words is a very important part of cross-cultural linguistics.In the intercultural communication,the meaning of words contains two parts:denotation(literal meaning)and connotation(cultural meaning).Literal meaning directly reflects objective world,while cultural meaning reflects subjective world beyond literal meaning.This thesis valued on the cultural meaning pf words,compared the cultural words meaning of Chinese and Thai under the theory of Intercultural Communication,Lexical Semantics and Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language,by taking the teaching practice in Thai as a study object and the current methods and results of the comparative study of cultural connotations of Chinese and English words as a reference.Meanwhile,it thoroughly showed and analyzed the class teaching practice of cultural meaning of words in Bankhai school of Rayong in Thai,and discussed the existing problems by providing corresponding solutions.The introduction stated this thesis' s research backgrounds,status,theory basis,and pointed out its purposes,meanings and innovations.Chapter 1 introduced the definition of the cultural meaning of words and defined the research area.Excepts,it also illustrated the common methods used in the cultural meaning of words comparison,and described the four different types of Chinese and Thai cultural meaning of words.Chapter 2 thoroughly analyzed the teaching case on the cultural meaning of words during the author's teaching in Thai,and revealed the problems existing in the teaching,which includes teacher's insufficient cross-culture awareness,single teaching method,inappropriate teaching strategy and words choosing,as well as students lacking subjective consciousness.Chapter 3 gave corresponding teaching suggestions to problems in chapter 2,including teacher strengthening cross-culture awareness,changing teaching strategy by using comprehensive teaching methods,paying attention to words choosing,and cultivating students' subjective consciousness.The last part is conclusion.First of all,it summarized the full text and pointed out theimportance of establishing cross-cultural awareness during teaching of the cultural meaning of Chinese words in Thai.Meanwhile,it analyzed and summarized this research's advantages and disadvantages.Finally,it shows a prospect on the next step research.
