Comparison Between Chinese And Thai Measure Word And Teaching Chinese Measure Word To Thai Students

The languages of Chinese and Thai both belong to Sino-Tibetan languages, so they all have plenty measure words, however not all the measure words from Chinese and Thai can be matched long with each other, thus, many errors have occurred when Thai students study Chinese. Since the author has taught Chinese to Thai students in Thailand for one year, based on the comparison research between the measure words from Chinese and Thai, this article compares the two main categories: noun-measure words and action-measure words first, and then below these two categories we divide the measure words into many specific categories. Through the meticulous comparison, we try to find the similarities and differences between Chinese measure words and Thai measure words. The next step is to predict the difficulties for Thai students when they study Chinese measure words, and we inspect the prediction with the error analysis, and find the reason of the error at last. Furthermore, this article has chosen the book THAI STUDENTS LEARN CHINESE as the analysis sample, we analyze the measure words part of this book, and try to figure out the present problems about the compiling of the measure words part in the books which we use to teach Thai students Chinese. At the last part, this article has come up with some suggestions on how to teach Chinese measure words to Thai students.
