| This thesis studies the Thai word"look".Firstly,it makes a close corpus statistics in the scope of the Royal College Dictionary and the Modern TThai Dictionary.And then,on the basis of previous research results,it describes the meaning,grammatical word formation and Grammaticalization of the word"look"in Thai.In addition,it compares the analysis results of the word"(look)"in Thai with that of"(look)"in Chinese,and summarizes them to get the similarities and differences between the two languages.This thesis is divided into six chapters:The first chapter is the introduction,which introduces the purpose and significance of this study,the related research summary,research approaches and methods.The second chapter is the meaning of the word“(look)”in Thai.The word“(look)’’in Thai first means;"look with eyes",which mainly means to make eyes contact with people,animals and objects.Later,many other semantics were derived.In addition to the category of the word"(look)”,there are 41words in the meaning field,and the Thai words related to eye contact are divided into six meaning fields.The third chapter is analyses the word-formation function of the word"(look)”in Thai,which can be divided into three types:verb-object,subject-subordinate and juxtaposition forms.The fourth chapter analyses the grammaticalization of the word"(look)"in Thai,which can be divided into two aspects:1.When the word"(look)"is placed after a verb or verb phrase,it develops into an auxiliary to express the Thai tentative voice.2.When the word"(look)"is preceded by a second personal pronoun,it means that the speaker tries to attract the listener’s interest in what is being mentioned,so the wordi"(look)"gradually turns into a communication marker used in speaking language.The fifth chapter mainly studies the Thai word"(look)"and Chinese word"(look)"from the three aspects of word meaning,word formation function and grammaticalization,and finds out the similarities and differences between the two languages.Chinese word"(look)"has more meanings and word-building functions than Thai word"(look)",and there are differences in grammaticalization.In Chinese can be divided into four categories:trial modal auxiliary words,modal markers,future tense markers and discourse markers.Thai word"(look)"only has the grammaticalization of modal auxiliary words and discourse markers.The six chapter is a conclusion,which summarizes the full text,illustrates the shortcomings of this paper,and prospects.We hope that these studies will be helpful for Thai and Chinese students to solve the problems found during language learning,and help the two countries learn each other’s languages better. |
