Abstract/Summary:
Though the theoretical studies of literary translation have made great progress these years, as a branch of literary translation, the children’s literature translation has received inadequate attention. With the expansion of communication between different cultures,more and more famous foreign children’s literature have been introduced into China than ever before. On the one hand, the quantity of children’s translation is increasing. On the other hand, their quality is not so satisfying. As the Chinese translation of foreign children’s literature plays such an important role in cultural communication, it is extremely urgent and necessary to carry out the research of children’s literature translation.This thesis, based on Reception Aesthetics, explores the relevant questions in children’s literature translation with Garden of the Purple Dragon as a sample. The thesis is mainly composed of six chapters. Chapter One is an introduction which mainly introduces the research background, task profile, significance of the study and the structure of the thesis. Chapter Two is literature review which presents relevant studies of children’s’ literature Translation in China and abroad. Chapter Three serves as the theoretical framework which introduces the origin and development of Reception Aesthetics, explains its key concepts and discusses the application of Reception Aesthetics to the translation of children’s literature. Chapter Four is task description which mainly introduces the preparation,translating process,correction and refinement in the author’s translation task. Chapter Five is a case study which is based on Reception Aesthetics. It takes the translation of Garden of the Purple Dragon as a sample and makes an analysis of the relevant questions in children’s literature translation form the linguistic,rhetorical and cultural levels. Chapter Six,the concluding part, summarizes the major findings and limitations of the research. It is hoped that the present research can shed some useful insight into the translation of children’s literature.
