A Practice Report On Simulated Simultaneous Interpreting

Based on the interview with Bernard Sanders on Vox News Network,this practice report aims to make a general analysis of information loss and the corresponding interpreting strategies.It is an ideal state to achieve “saying it all”,and the omission of information is unavoidable,for simultaneous interpretation itself is an intricate task accomplished by the sharing of cognitive resources among four major efforts: listening and analysis,memory,production and coordination.The information loss used to be considered as translation errors,whereas a lot of related studies have found that when the source message is too complex to be fully interpreted or the source language and the target language are ambiguously intertwined in the process of interpretation due to different language structures and styles,the interpreter needs to,to the greatest extent,make the appropriate choice in order to reproduce the information in the source language.And this practice report is going to analyze the types of information loss and the corresponding strategies through concrete examples.This practice report deals with a large number of hot issues on politics,economy and culture,and that requires the interpreter to have logical analysis ability and a general idea of the current international environment as well as the domestic political situation in the United States.Therefore,the interpreter has collected some related materials about Bernard Sanders' s proposition and his personal views that are frequently mentioned in his addresses in the preparation stage.This report is mainly divided into four parts,the first part is the description of the task,in which the author plans to introduce the content and the background information of the respondents;the second part is the pre-task preparation,the third part will go to the difficulty analysis,in this part,the author is going to focus on the types of information loss with some examples in the practice.The fourth part is about the corresponding interpretation strategies.This practice is strictly in accordance with the simulated interpreting plan,supplementing with post-task evaluation.This report aims to help the author have a better understand ing of interpreting through logical analysis and reflection,and lay a solid foundation for future practice by improving the ability of solving problems.
