The source text of this translation project is excerpted from Approaches to Translation, authored by Peter Newmark. As for the translation practice, the author is mainly responsible for Chapter Nine of the first part and the first two chapters of the second part.Based on the characteristics of informative text and under the guidance of communicative translation theory, the author examined the translation practice of this book, and analyzed the difficulties and solutions of the translation project from three aspects: the lexical level, syntactic level and discourse level. On the lexical level, when translating special terms, translators should find the proper equivalence,so the readers can understand without difficulties. Some words may be converted into other word classes because their equivalences belong to other word classes. On the syntactic level, when English and Chinese languages have equivalent sentence structures, the structure can be reserved. But when there is no equivalent structure in the target language, the translator should adjust the word order or add some linking words to help the readers’ understanding. On the discourse level,as logical relations and cohesion means are used, the translator should add informative or logical phrases when necessary to make the translation text easy to understand. This paper on one hand is aimed to describe and conclude the executing process of the translation project, and on the other hand,it is hoped to provide some reference and help for the academic work translation to some extent.
