A Report On E-C Translation Of Informative Texts From The Perspective Of Communicative Translation Theory

AI is gradually penetrating into people’s lives,and in the increasingly common human-machine interaction,how to get along correctly with AI is a problem that we have to face.The book Machines We Trust:Perspectives on Dependable AI focuses on this cutting-edge topic,exploring the relationship between AI and social ethics from different fields such as law,philosophy,computer science and industry,as well as the current and future impact of AI on human life.The source text is rich in information,plain in language,objective in content,and coherent in discourse,making it a typical informative text.Based on the characteristics of informative texts and guided by Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory,this translation practice explores the English Chinese translation methods of informative texts from three levels:lexical level,syntactic level,and textual level.Through the analysis of specific cases,the following conclusions are drawn as follows:at the lexical level,literal translation,zero translation,free translation and transliteration are adopted to ensure the accuracy and professionalism of terms and proper nouns;at the syntactic level,methods such as part of speech conversion,voice conversion,and splitting long sentences are used to accurately convey the original information while ensuring that the translation conforms to the expression habits of the target language;at the textual level,methods such as addition and repetition are used to ensure smooth and logical coherence in the translation,which is in line with the reading habits of the target language readers.The research results indicate that this translation practice has verified the applicability of Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory to the translation of informative texts,and confirmed the operability of the above translation methods in achieving the communicative purpose of translation.
