As language and culture are closely related, cultural elements and general culture should be integrated into teaching Chinese as a second language(TCSL). Language teaching plays a dominant part in TCSL and cultural teaching serves as a supplement to it. Basic language skills as well as abundant Chinese cultural knowledge must be delivered to enhance learners' intercultural communicative competence when teaching. For learners who would like to reach the advanced stage, the intermediate stage of TCSL is a critical period, among which the cultural teaching fulfils a vital role in motivating and keeping learners' interests, accumulating their knowledge, and improving their ability of communication in Chinese. Based on the review and analysis of previous studies about theoretical researches on cultural teaching, this paper concludes that the cultural teaching content of intermediate TCSL mainly involves cultural elements teaching, which focuses on characters' cultural meaning as well as moderate cultural knowledge teaching. Then the paper summarizes the teaching methods and teaching principles appropriate for this stage. According to the author's teaching experience abroad, this paper makes an analysis of cultural teaching and culture experience activities in comprehensive classes. Finally, the paper comes up with difficulties in cultural teaching, explores the requirements for TCSL teachers in this stage and discusses what qualities teachers should possess.
