With increasing exchanges of politics, economy and culture between China and South Korea, the enthusiasm of learning Chinese is growing in South Korea, the number of Koreans learning Chinese has increased steadily. To meet the demand, the Korean Ministry of Education(South Korea) has signed an agreement with the Chinese Ministry of Education. Since 2012, excellent undergraduate or graduate students selected by China’s national Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters, has come to South Korea for Chinese teaching.The author was selected as a Chinese volunteer teacher to teach in Hawsun, Jeollanam-do of South Korea in 2014. The author had worked in Hawsun high school for one year, during which the author has found out some problems hindered Chinese teaching in that area. Problems are as follows: Chinese language course is undervalued, curriculum setting is unreasonable, teaching material is not so attractive, students are not passionate enough about learning, teaching method is not diverse and so on. To improve Chinese teaching in this region, through analyzing the existing problems with the help of questionnaires, interviews, and teaching practice, this paper has put forward reasonable suggestions: consulting with schools to ensure the reasonable distribution of Chinese courses, appropriate arrangement between language and culture teaching; adding some useful and interesting contents to existing teaching materials; adopting diverse teaching methods instead of grammar translation method, developing cooperative teaching to add more spice to the class; enhancing students` understanding of Chinese culture to broaden their horizons; as well as improving both Korean and Chinese teachers’ teaching skills comprehensively.This paper consists five chapters. Chapter 1 introduction generalized the background of the essay, research significance, research purpose, research content, research methodology. Chapter 2 combs to summarize domestic and international relevant research literature. Chapter 3 investigates Chinese teaching present situation of high schools in Hwasun, Jeollanam-do of Korea through questionnaire survey, interview, and methods of teaching practice. Chapter 4 makes an analysis of the results of the survey to discover the problems of curriculum, teaching methods, teaching materials, teachers and students in this region. Chapter 5 provides reasonable suggestions according to the problems presented in the previous chapter. In the end, the essay points out the deficiencies of the research and makes a summary of the paper.
