With the development of economic globalization, more and more international enterprises have emerged. In the settlement of Asia-Pacific issues, APEC has served as the most influential official forum on economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.Authoritative voice from elites and leaders of different industries could be heard in the forum, which plays an integral part in facilitating the regional trade and enhancing the economic cooperation among the member nations. Therefore, interpretation of speeches in international forums and meetings witness a bigger market. This is an interpretation report on The Pains of Management on Small and Medium Sized Enterprises, a speech delivered by the former CEO of Lenovo Group Liu Chuanzhi in the APEC SME Summit held in Hangzhou, China in 2009. The speech illustrates the management issues in the current Chinese SME enterprises, exploring the problems exiting in the early stages when Lenovo was founded, and explained how the company survived the difficult times, hoping that the case studies of Lenovo in the early years could help SME improve their managerial expertise. The paper mainly discusses the C-E interpretation of speeches in the international meetings based on the translation variation theory by Huang Zhonglian. As the report reveals, the translation variation theory is the combination of interpretation and adaptation to the essence, which means adaptation before or after interpretation, or adaptation mixed with interpretation. Variation in this sense refers to the translation or interpretation of the source text by means of addition, reduction, combination, editing and so on. This report analyzes the disfluency, vague language and cultural barrier between Chinese and English in the speech and proposes the corresponding interpretation methods.Though variation has been mainly applied in translation rather than interpretation, more and more scholars believe that it could also serve as practical interpretation approaches by appropriate application.Interpretation project is of great significance in verifying, enriching and developing the translation variation theory for senior interpreters in the international meetings, which could serve as the reference for interpretation practice. |
