Objectives To investigate the incidence and effect factors of gallstone. Methods This is a prospective cohort study to observe the incidence of gallstone.A total of 101,510 in-service and retired employees of the Kailuan Group who took part in the first round of physical examination in the year 2006?2007 were subjects of the research for follow-up investigations and observation of incidence of gallstone.Uniform questionnaire survey, blood biochemical tests and abdominal ultrasound examination were conducted on the subjects. In the end,82,341 participant cases were included in the statistical analysis.Kaplan-Meier method is used to calculate incidence of gallstone, which is then tested using log-rank test for differences in incidences of gallstone among different gender and age groups.Cox proportional hazards model is used to analyze effect factors of gallstone. Results 1 Over a mean follow-up period of 5.52±1.40 years, among the 82,341 participants,1,846 developed gallstone during the follow-up period, including 1,434 male and 412 female. The overall incidence of gallstone was 2.2%(male: 2.2%,female: 2.3%).2 After using the Multiple Cox Proportional Hazard Regression Analysis, increased age(40-60 years versus<40 years,HR=1.95[95% CI 1.63?2.33],?60 years versus<40 years,HR=3.34[95% CI 2.75?4.06]),BMI(24-28kg/m2 versus < 24kg/m2,HR=1.33[95% CI1.19?1.49],?28kg/m2 versus < 24kg/m2,HR=1.49 [95% CI 1.30?1.71]),diabetes(yes versus ideal fasting glucose,HR=1.17 [95% CI 1.01?1.36]),hs CRP(0.80-2.10mg/L versus<0.30mg/L,HR=1.22[95% CI 1.06?1.42],?2.10mg/L versus<0.30mg/L,HR=1.48[95%CI 1.28?1.70]),drinking(yes versus no,HR=0.87[95% CI 0.77?0.99]).Conclusions The incidence of gallstone is increased with age, blood pressure,BMI,and fasting blood glucose.Increased age, high BMI,diabetes, and high hs CRP are risk factors of gallstone, and moderate level of alcohol drinking is a protective factor in terms of incidence of gallstone.
