ObjectivesThe aim of this study is to assess the implementation effect of the standardized resident training in a Grade A tertiary hospital in Guangzhou by Kirkpatrick's four level evaluation method,so as to understand the standardized training work,discover the problems and discuss its underlying reasons.This study put some feasible suggestions and relevant improvement measures,and provide a reference for administrative departments in Guangzhou.MethodsThe research is mainly made through document study,questionnaire survey and qualitative interview.The document study use "residency training" and "performance evaluation" for keywords,the situation of standardization resident training at home and abroad were analyzed,compared and summarized.308 residents who entered the target hospital and begun the standardized resident training form 2013-2015 were selecting as the subjects of the questionnaire,and the study is using Kirkpatrick evaluation model to classify the stratification of the survey results.Data were analyzed by t-test,one-factor ANOVA and variance analysis.10 interviewees were randomly selected from the residents who were currently accepting the standardized resident training as the subjects of the qualitative interview.The content of interview involves three aspects,the attitude to training,the view of training content and the feedback on the training effect,analysis whether residents change their attitude and behavior or not after training.ResultsAn investigation on knowledge and attitude shows that,82.1%of residents consider that it is necessary to conduct the standardized resident training.Satisfaction survey reveals the overall satisfaction is 3.86 points,residents are more satisfied with the professional level of teachers and the content of training,and they are dissatisfied with the welfare and rotation arrangement.The basic knowledge,the examination of medical records and the level of clinical practice were improved by attending the standardized resident training.According to the residents'self assessment,the overall effect gets 3.36 points,that means most people think the standardized training is effective.,and the biggest improvement is interpersonal and communication skills,with an average of 3.56 points,the least is the scientific capacity,only 2.79 points.The figures show that in 2013,patient complaint rate and medical accident rate was 0,the pass rate of graduation examination in 2016 was 95.7%,the employment rate reached 100%.62.3%of the residents published or employed more than one papers in Chinese journals as first author.ConclusionsAfter training,the attitude towards standardized resident training,the overall satisfaction,the quality of ability of residents were increased or changed.Resident standardized training has a positive effect on the hospital.But there are still some problems,such as the meager earning,poor teaching enthusiasm,sloppy examination formality and other issues.Therefore,the following suggestions are put forward:improve the welfare of residents,establish teaching incentive and constraint mechanism etc.
