[Objective] The study was an investigation of the oral health status of 12-18-year-old intellectual disabled people in Yunnan Province. The aims of the study was to collect data of oral health information of the intellectual disabled people, and to analysis the relative factors of dental caries, and provide purposeful prevention measures. Also, to provide epidemiological basis of oral health longitudinal study for disabled people in southwest of China. To provide theoretical basis for oral health care and needs of disable department and special schools.[Methods] According to the fifth edition of "WHO Oral Health Survey Basic Methods",and "The Third National Oral Health Investigate Guideline". Multistage cluster random sampling were uesd. Firstly, randomly select two cities from the north and south area of Yunnan Province, then randomly select 12-18-year-old intellectual disabled people from 1-2schools of four cities, totally 438 people(256male 183 female;145 from city, 293 from countryside ). Oral health examination was for people, questionnaires were for parents, questionnaires including oral hygiene habit, diet habit of disabled people, and socioeconomic of parents. The result were analyzed by using EpiData 3.1 and SPSS 20.0 software package in which including t-test, chi-test, the prevalence of caries, DMFT, DMFS, relevance ratio of gingival bleeding, relevance ratio of dental calculus, and the single relative factors of caries disease. The positive factors in single variable analysis were further processed as independent variable when the presence of caries set as dependent variable, in multivariate unconditional logistic model.[Results] The prevalence of permanent dental caries of 12-18-year-old intellectual disabled people was 31.74%, the mean DMFT was 0.49±0.93, the mean DMFS was 0.69±1.43, filled teeth surfaces account for 6.58%. There was statistical significance in the prevalence and DMFS between male and female. There was no statistical significance in the prevalence DMFT and DMFS between urban and rural. According the results of Third National Oral Health Survey, the caries prevalence of 12-year-old was 24.4%. It was lower than that of 28.9% prevalence of children in China, higher than 20.6% prevalence of 12-year-old children in Yunnan province, and it has statistical significance. The relevance ratio of gingival bleeding and mean teeth was 69.86%,1.92±1.01, the relevance ratio of dental calculus and mean teeth was 81.96%,2.82±1.83. There was no statistical significance between genders and areas. When the dental caries was taken as the dependent variable and the total of 13 positive factors in single variable analysis taken as independent variable, the results from a multivariate analyses showed that the schools, surge taken after teeth brushing, the frequency of consumption of dessert, the caries knowledge of parents and the mother 's educational level were associated with tooth caries of the intellectual disabled people.[Conclusions] (1) The prevalence of dental caries of 12-18-year-old intellectual disabled people in Yunnan Province was relatively good. However, the ratio of tooth filled was low, and the periodontal health status was serious. Thus, oral disease prevention and treatment needs for them. (2 ) The oral health needs were huge, while the special care and service utilization was low. Because of the disabilities and the parents lack of the awareness and knowledge, the implementation of oral health service for the group was restricted. (3 ) The multivariate Logistic analyses showed that: the genders , the area schools, diets habit and , the caries knowledge of parents were associated with the tooth caries of the intellectual disabled people. Therefor, the government and related special schools should provide more policy and financial support. Strengthening oral health education for the parents, it's helpful to develop their diets and oral hygiene habits. Providing some effective caries prevention measures, like fluoride using and pit and fissure sealant for them. Thus, to improve their oral health quality of life, and to achieve the purpose of oral health promotion.
