1 Objective The changes about House-Brackmann(H-B)symptom rating scale and Facial Disability Index(FDI)scale were observed in order to evaluate the effectiveness of treating peripheral facial paralysis(PFP)by point to point puncture and pricking blood.2 Method Forty cases of peripheral facial paralysis patients from Anhui provincial hospital of acupuncture and moxibustion were chosen and divided randomly into two groups:control group, which included 20 cases and treated by regular acupuncture for one time a day;and treatment group, which included 20 cases and treated by point to point puncture for one time a day combined with pricking blood for one time three days. Both groups received treatment for 10 days a course and continuously for 3courses.H-B symptom rating scale and FDI scale of two groups were compared before treatment, after the first course, the second course and the third course, respectively. The curative effect of all the cases was evaluated after the third course and all the data was analyzed by SPSS17.0 after being collected.3 Results3.1 Comparison in the group The H-B evaluation and FDI score of each group after the first, the second and the third course had statistically significant compared with the results before treatment(P<0.05),which illustrated that peripheral facial paralysis could be treated effectively both by point to point puncture combined with pricking blood and by conventional acupuncture.3.2 Comparison between groups The Function Index in FDI score of treatment group had significant difference with that of control group(P<0.05)while the Social Index in FDI score and H-B evaluation between two groups had no statistical significance after the first course (P>0.05).It showed that treatment group had better effectiveness in improving facial function than control group while it had similar treatment effect in social psychology and facial signs with control group after the first course. The Function Index in FDI score and H-B evaluation of treatment group had significant difference with that of control group(P<0.05)while the Social Index between two groups had no statistical significance after the second and the third course(P>0.05).It showed that treatment group had better effectiveness in improving facial function and facial signs than control group while it had similar treatment effect in social psychology with control group after the second and the third course. The treatment effect had significant difference between treatment group and control group after three courses which showed that point to point puncture combined with pricking blood had better effect in treating peripheral facial paralysis than conventional acupuncture.4 Conclusion Both point to point puncture combined with pricking blood and conventional acupuncture have good curative effect in treating peripheral facial paralysis while the former is more effective.Point to point puncture combined with pricking blood has high clinic value.
