A sword to cut the noose of untimely death,a supplementary to the knack of healing is a by Tibetan medical mono graphs written by Desi Sangye Gyatso(1653-1705)in 1691.Along with the development and transmission of Tibetan Buddhism into Mongolia in the 17th century,an Oirad Mongolian famous scholar and religious activist,Zaya Pandita Namkhaijamts(1599-1662)created the Mongolian clear script in 1648.He also translated the Tibetan medical text Four Medical Tantras into Mongolian in the middle of the 17th century.The second medical text translated into Mongolian was A sword to cut the noose of untimely death,a supplementary to knack of healing(also known as A supplementary to the knack of healing,lantab/than thabs,lantab onward in this thesis).The text was translated in the mid 18th century by a Oirad monk doctor Lobsangnamgyal in collaboration with other monk doctors agebagesul under the commission of Gaklangcherin The text is now kept in the Office for the Directing group for Managing the Minorities' Old Books ofXinjiang Uygur Autonomous RegionThis thesis is a comprehensive study of Lantab.It consists of five parts:introduction,main body,conclusion,references and appendix.The introduction includes the purpose and significance of the topic,literature review,contribution of the thesis and difficulty of the topic,and research methods.The main body of the thesis consists of five Chapters.Chapter 1 is about Lantab's origin,development,author,contents and translation in home and abroad.Chapter 2 is a study of introduction of the Clear Script Lantab.Chapter 3 is on the chapter entitled "Roots of Diseases" in Lantab;chapter 4 is about colophone of Lantab and chapter 5 a study of terminologies and symbols appear in the Introduction,"Root of Diseases" and the colophone,and a comparison of the Clear Script Lantab and Mongolian Script Lantab.It also includes annotations a of these parts.
