Objective: To investigate the possible association between transforming growth factor beta-1 29C/T(codon 10)gene polymorphisms and chronic periodontitis in a sample of Moyu Uygur population. Methods: The study was conducted on healthy control group, mild chronic periodontitis group, moderate to severe chronic periodontitis group.Samples came from the region's biological sample library of chronic periodontitis that had been established before, according to the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria, each group selected 100 samples randomly.T-ARMS-PCR method was used to detect the distribution of genotype and allele of transforming growth factor beta-1 29C/T(codon 10)in the subjects.Statistical analysis was performed using Chi-squared test, ordinal classification Logistic regression analysis. Results: The genotype and allele frequencies in healthy control group, mild chronic periodontitis group, moderate to severe chronic periodontitis group distribution were significantly differen(?2=12.161,?2=8.418,P < 0.05).After Bonferroni correction, there was significant difference in the genotype and allele frequencies distribution between the normal group and the moderate to severe periodontitis group(?2=11.306,?2=8.415,P<0.0167),normal and mild group, mild and moderate to severe group had no significant difference(P > 0.0167).Age was significantly associated with chronic periodontitis(P < 0.001),and the TT genotype was the risk factor for periodontitis in the population(OR=2.36,95%CI:1.09-5.12,P<0.05).Conclusion: The results indicate that transforming growth factor beta-1 29C/T(codon 10)gene polymorphism may contribute to susceptibility of chronic periodontitis in Moyu County of Xinjiang Uygur population, and TT genotype may be risk factor for the chronic periodontitis.
