| ObjectiveThis study investigated the distribution pattern of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)syndromes in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)in Cizao Town,Jinjiang City,Fujian Province,to explore its association with the clinic biomedical indicators, providing prevention measures and TCM treatment for type 2 diabetes population as reference.MethodsAccording to Traditional Chinese Medicine Therapeutic Standards on Diabetes by Chinese Medicine Association Diabetes Division, information about the four TCM diagnostic methods was collected with clinical data,to formulate the structured and procedural clinical information questionnaire, including common syndromes, signs, tongue manifestation and pulse condition.Questionnaires were collected with basic information about subjects,TCM syndromes and related test indicators. The research is a cross-sectional study. Each form was filled out separately to ensure that there was no interference in patients.Questionnaire collecting and assessing were reviewed by trained medical researchers.ResultsBy statistical analysis, the results of this study found that in 317 patients in Cizao Town,Jinjiang City,Fujian Province(134 Male,42.3%and 183 Female,57.7%,average age:63.49±9.11,in 22 Villages which includes 72 from Cizao Residential Committee,35 from Xin’an Village,35 from Xiaguanlu Village,22 from Yangzhai Village,21 from Su’an Village,18 from Dazhai Village,20 from Dapu Village and 20 from Yaoqiong Village)Yin Deficiency Heat Syndrome(n=113,35.6%)and Phlegm and Dampness Heat Syndrome(n=101,31.9%)have higher ratios,Qi and Yin Deficiency Syndrome(n=68,21.5%)and Yin and Yang Deficiency Syndrome(n=35,11.0%)lower.The relationship between type 2 diabetes mellitus syndromes and relevant factors are as followed:1.Syndromes and course of disease:Length of time period from short to long:Yin Deficiency Heat Syndrome>Phlegm and Dampness Heat Syndrome>Qi and Yin Deficiency Syndrome>Yin and Yang Deficiency Syndrome.2.Syndromes and body mass index/waist and hip ratio:a.Body mass index from high to low:Phlegm and Dampness Heat Syndrome>Yin Deficiency Heat Syndrome>Qi and Yin Deficiency Syndrome>Yin and Yang Deficiency Syndrome.b.Waist and hip ratio from high to low:Phlegm and Dampness Heat Syndrome>Yin Deficiency Heat Syndrome>Yin and Yang Deficiency Syndrome>Qi and Yin Deficiency Syndrome.3.Syndromes and fasting plasma glucose:Fasting plasma glucose from high to low:Phlegm and Dampness Heat Syndrome>Qi and Yin Deficiency Syndrome>Yin Deficiency Heat Syndrome>Yin and Yang Deficiency Syndrome.4.Syndromes and blood lipids:a.Triglyceride levels from high to low:Phlegm and Dampness Heat Syndrome>Yin Deficiency Heat Syndrome>Qi and Yin Deficiency Syndrome>Yin and Yang Deficiency Syndrome.b.Total cholesterol level from high to low:phlegm and dampness heat syndrome>Yin Deficiency Heat Syndrome>Qi and Yin Deficiency Syndrome>Yin and Yang Deficiency Syndrome.c.Low Density Lipoprotein(LDL-c)levels from high to low:Yin and Yang Deficiency Syndrome>Qi and Yin Deficiency Syndrome>Phlegm and Dampness Heat Syndrome>Yin Deficiency Heat Syndrome.d.High Density Lipoprotein(HDL-c)levels from high to low:Yin Deficiency Heat Syndrome>Phlegm and Dampness Heat Syndrome>Yin and Yang Deficiency Syndrome>Qi and Yin Deficiency Syndrome.5.Syndromes and blood pressure a.Systolic blood pressure from high to low:Qi and Yin Deficiency Syndrome>Yin and Yang Deficiency Syndrome>Phlegm and Dampness Heat Syndrome>Yin Deficiency Heat Syndrome.b.Diastolic blood pressure from high to low:Yin and Yang Deficiency Syndrome>Qi and Yin Deficiency Syndrome>Yin Deficiency Heat Syndrome>Phlegm and Dampness Heat Syndrome.6.Syndromes and hepatic and renal function:a.Hepatic function lesion from high to low:Yin Deficiency Heat Syndrome>Phlegm and Dampness Heat Syndrome>Qi and Yin Deficiency Syndrome>Yin and Yang Deficiency Syndrome.b.Renal function lesion from high to low:Yin and Yang Deficiency Syndrome>Yin Deficiency Heat Syndrome>Phlegm and Dampness Heat Syndrome>Qi and Yin Deficiency Syndrome.Conclusion1.Yin Deficiency Heat Syndrome and Phlegm and Dampness Heat Syndrome are the most common two syndromes among T2DM patients in Cizao Town,Jinjiang City,Fujian Province, followed by Qi and Yin Deficiency Syndrome and Yin and Yang Deficiency Syndrome.2.BMI,WHR,FBG and TG level were found the highest in Phlegm and Dampness Heat Syndrome. For Phlegm and Dampness Heat Syndrome, clearing heat, promoting diuresis and removing phlegm can be the focus in the clinical TCM treatment intervention.3.Hepatic function lesion was found the most common in Yin Deficiency Heat Syndrome among the four.Patients with Yin Deficiency Heat Syndrome are supposed to lay emphasis on protecting liver, and nourishing yin and clearing heat can be focused on in clinical TCM treatment intervention.4.Renal function lesion was found the most common in Yin and Yang Deficiency Syndrome among the four.Patients with Yin and Yang Deficiency Syndrome are supposed to lay emphasis on examining renal functions, and tonifying kidney Yin and Yang can be focused on in clinical TCM treatment intervention. |
