Prescription Pattern Study Of Professor Shao Zhaodi For The Treatment Of Chronic Renal Failure By Data Mining

Objective: Data mining was used to study Professor Shao Zhaodi’s prescription pattern for treating chronic renal failure.This study explores Professor Shao Zhaodi’s clinical diagnosis and treatment methods,provides references for clinical application,and provides objective basis for the reservation and promotion of precious experiences from the old Chinese medicine practitioners.Methods: The diagnosis and treatment cases of chronic renal failure during Professor Shao Zhaodi’s practice between January2002 and December 2010 were collected,and screened strictly with the inclusion and exclusion criteria to obtain 169 qualified cases.The cases were entered into the outpatient structured electronic medical record system.After the completion of the entry,the relevant data needed for this study were extracted,summarized,and normalized in Excel to build the database.Finally,the frequencies of herbs in the prescriptions were sorted using frequency analysis,and re-sorted by the efficacy of the herbs to obtained high-frequency herbs and herb categories.Association rules were used to identify herbs with strong correlations,and identified common herb combinations in Professor Shao Zhaodi’s prescriptions.Result: Prescriptions for chronic renal failure involve a total of 112 Chinese medicines.Different herbs appeared a total of 2179 times,with the most frequent 16 herbs being:Poria,Semen plantaginis,Achyranthes,Astragalus,Angelica,Atractylodes,Yam,Codonopsis,Alisma,Radix rehmanniae,Tangerine peel,Pinellia,Dogwood,Rhubarb,Motherwort,and Epimedium.The accumulative frequencies of them are greater than 50%.There are a total of 16 herb categories for the treatment of the disease.The top 10 frequent herb categories are: tonic herbs,damp-clearing herbs,blood-quickening stasis-transforming herbs,heat-clearing herbs,Qi-regulating herbs,antitussive and antiasthmatic herbs,astringent herbs,laxative herbs,digestant herbs,and damp resolving herbs.Through the analysis with association rules,a total of 60 pairs of herb combinations showed strong correlation.Through“rule analysis”of the 60 pairs,48 rules were obtained.Conclusion: The data mining results of this study basically reflect the prescription rules for treatment of chronic renal failure by Professor Shao Zhaodi.1.Poria,Semen plantaginis,Achyranthes,Astragalus,Angelica,Atractylodes,Yam,Codonopsis,Alisma,Radix rehmanniae,Tangerine peel,Pinellia,Dogwood,Rhubarb,Motherwort,and Epimedium are the core herbs in Professor Shao Zhaodi’s prescriptions for treating chronic renal failure.2.Tonic medicine,damp-clearing herbs,blood-quickening stasis-transforming herbs,heat-clearing herbs,Qi-regulating herbs,antitussive and antiasthmatic herbs,astringent herbs,laxative herbs,digestant herbs,and damp resolving herbs are common categories of herbs in Professor Shao Zhaodi’s prescriptionsfor treating chronic renal failure.3.Semen plantaginis,Achyranthes;Astragalus,Poria;Tangerine peel,Pinellia;Poria,Yam,Dogwood;Angelicaetc,Achyranthes.etc.are common herb combinations in Professor Shao Zhaodi’s prescriptions for treating chronic renal failure.4.Strenthening the spleen and tonifying the kidney,supplementing Qi and nourishing Yin,clearing damp and promoting diuresis,arresting seminal emission,promoting circulation of blood and Qi,removing stasis and activating collaterals,and eliminating turbidity by purgation are the basic principles in Professor Shao Zhaodi’s prescriptions for treating chronic renal failure.
