Objective: Based on the existing literature,to evaluate the level of evidence and strength of therapeutic efficacy of Tianma Gouteng Decoction in the treatment of hypertension, providing evidence for writing guidelines of the traditional Chinese Medicine. Methods:According to the requisition of Cochrane systematic review, retrieving randomized controlled trials of treating hypertension with Tianma Gouteng Decoction(TGD),among databases in Chinese and English,Chinese professional Journal for cardiovascular related, references cited in the relevant articles, with the methods of electronic and manual retrieval, until January 2016.Evaluated the quality of the qualified researches with GRADE profile, conducted tests for Meta-analysis,heterogeneity,sensitivity analysis by RevMan5.3 software.Results:(1)Collected 211 related randomized controlled trials, only 10 researches are qualified but very low RCTs in quality, according to GRADE profile.(2)With conventional methods of blood pressure measurement and Ambulatory Blood Pressure Measurement, there are significant differences between TGD combined with hypotensor and hypotensor alone in treatment of hypertension.(3)The incidence of adverse reaction of the TGD alone is less than the hypotensor.Conclusion:(1) The efficiency of TGD treating hypertension is equivalent to hypotensor.(2)The efficiency of TGD combined with hypotensor treating hypertension is better than hypotensor alone.(3) In antihypertensive efficacy, improvement of traditional Chinese medicine syndromes and the quality of life,TGD combined with hypotensor is better than hypotensor alone.(4)Because of the effect of uncertainty as well as the “low” quality of evidence, the grade of evidence is V.(5)Due to insufficient evidence, the recommended intensity is selective.
