Study Of Death Among Children Under 5 Years Old In Yibin City From 2013 To 2015

Objective To study the prevalence status, tendency, the leading causes of death, and analyze the cause-of-death structure based on the death surveillance data of children under 5 years old in Yibin city from2013 to 2015. This study aims to provide scientific evidences for reducing the child mortality under 5 years old in Yibin city.Methods The death surveillance data of children under 5 years old in Yibin city from 2013 to 2015 was collected and analyzed. The prevalence status, tendency, the leading causes of death were described using the indicators of neonates mortality rate(NMR), infant mortality rate(IMR),under five mortality rate(U5MR), cause-specific mortality and so on.Results The study shows that the NMR,IMR,U5 MR of Yibin city from2013 to 2015 was respectively1.89‰, 3.39‰ and 7.74‰. Among these children died under 5 years old, 24.36% were neonates?43.82%% were infants and 31.81% were children aged 1 to 4 years old. Mortality in infant account for the highest proportion of the children died under 5years old, followed by the deaths of children aged 1 to 4 years old, the deaths of the neonates was the lowest. The NMR,IMR,U5 MR of Yibin city from 2013 to 2015 showed an overall downward trend. The top five causes of death of newborns in 2015 were preterm and low birth weight,pneumonia, congenital heart disease, neonate asphyxia, accidental suffocation. The top five causes of death of infants in 2015 were pneumonia, congenital heart disease, preterm and low birth weight,neonate asphyxia, accidental suffocation. The top five causes of death of children under 5 years old in 2015 were accidental injury, pneumonia,congenital heart disease, preterm and low birth weight, and other diseases.The analysis of leading causes of death in this study based on the top five causes of death of infants in 2015, the results show that mortality rate of preterm and low birth weight, pneumonia and accidental injury from2013 to 2015 showed an Relatively obvious downward trend, the mortality rate of congenital heart disease didn't show a downward trend and even had a rising tendency.Conclusion There were overall downward trends respectively in the NMR, IMR, U5 MR in general from 2013 to 2015 in Yibin city.Accidental injury, pneumonia, congenital heart disease, preterm and low birth weight were the top five causes of death of children under 5 years old in 2015. We should pay high attention to reducing the death of infants,and should establish and improve the three-stage network of maternal and child health at the grass-roots level, strengthen the health care in perinatal and neonatal period, propaganda the guidance related to medical science knowledge to reduce the mortality of children under 5 years old.
