With the continuous development of the Chinese economy and culture,people’s life and consumption concept are changing constantly.Their pursuit in the spiritual and cultural aspects and desire to show their own national culture are also growing.This is reflected in the design,especially the design of the hotel which is related to people’s daily life,work and travel,so the hotel design should not only focus on the spiritual and cultural contemporary but also pay more attention to highlight the native and traditional culture.Based on this background,the article wants to explore the methods and principles of contemporary design,which is based on the Chinese traditional thought.Firstly,the paper,which is based on the theoretical platform that "aesthetic is imagery",launches the analysis of the basic concepts of the "xu"(the virtuality,the imaginary situation,the opposite side to actual situation)and "shi"(the entity,the inducing imaginary situation,the actual situation)and the imagery and specifies their mutual relations by literature research methodology.The article communicates the belief that the imagery should have the meaning that "using imagery to get the content".According to Chinese estheticians’ argument for the idea that "aesthetic is imagery",this paper constructs the ideological framework of "primary imagery" and "world imagery" and the combination of the two of them to produce the aesthetic imagery and puts forward the idea that "seeking beauty with the actual imagery of the virtuality and the entity".On this basis,through the analysis of outstanding works of art at all times and in all countries,this paper emphatically explores the imagery which contains multiple relationships between the virtuality and the entity and the specific form of "using imagery of the virtuality and the entity to get beauty" by the way of case analysis.Secondly,the paper combines the results of the above research to analyze the aesthetic imagery of themed hotel of Chinese culture.Through case analysis and actual hotel research,the thesis explores the nature,characteristics and types of the aesthetic imagery of the hotel;especially,it explores the designing of aesthetic imagery in the hotel space with the way of"imagery of the virtuality and the entity" from the aspects of aesthetic imagery of Chinese national culture,aesthetic imagery of Chinese historical culture,aesthetic imagery of Chinese natural culture and so on.Then,the paper summarizes the concept of aesthetic principle of hotel design and puts forward the principle of the virtuality and the entity of modeling elements,of material sense,of light and color,of symbol and particularly the general principle of "using imagery to get the content".Finally,the thesis clarifies the design of aesthetic imagery and makes "the virtuality and the entity" and "imagery" in the traditional Chinese esthetics category present in the contemporary design,meanwhile the Chinese aesthetics and traditional Chinese spirit are also injected into the contemporary Chinese design to realize the transformation from aesthetic theory to design practice.
