Feature Analysis And Value Evaluation On Historical Buildings Of Soochow University

With the recent robust development of architectural heritage protection movements,as an important chapter in modern architectural history,the historical buildings in church schools in modern China begin to attract scholars' attention.The Tiancizhuang Campus of Soochow University founded in 1900,is among one of the oldest church universities in China.The historical buildings in the campus are typical examples of excellent educational architectures in modern China.After the development of more than a century,the historical space and the main buildings in the campus still remain intact,thus serving as a rare example to study the historical buildings in church schools in modern China.With the historical buildings in Tiancizhuang Campus of Soochow University as the research target,this paper goes over the history of Soochow University's evolution and development,through on-the-spot investigation,analyzes the present construction situation in Tiancizhuang Campus,and clarifies the relationship between the historical buildings and their surrounding environment.This paper also explains the fa?ades,space forms and details of some historical buildings.Based on the knowledge of the value of the architectural heritage,this paper proposes the value formation of the historical buildings in Tiancizhuang Campus,constructs a value evaluation index system model by adopting chromatography analysis method,and forms a comprehensive evaluation on the value of the historical buildings in Tiancizhuang Campus.From the result of the evaluation,this paper analyzes the shortcomings of the campus in the process of conservation and utilization of historical buildings.In view of the existing problems,the relevant optimization suggestions are put forward from three perspectives of planning,building monomer,and management system.It is hoped that through this research,people's awareness of the value of the historical buildings in church university in modern China can be raised,and some effective references can be offered for the better conservation and utilization of historical buildings in campus.
