Abstract/Summary:
Historical buildings of Hunan University were famous architectural heritage with outstanding historical,artistic and scientific value in early modernist architecture in China,which had been declared as the seventh batch of national Key cultural relics units under State Protections in 2013,and were selected as the "Second batch of China’s 20th century architectural heritage"in 2017.The buildings were used as office buildings or students’ dormitories in past decades and nowadays are still workplace for lots of colleges.Although most of them were maintained by certain departments,historical buildings of Hunan University were severely damaged as they age.The reasons lie in different aspects,such as deterioration of the external wall and terrible insulation of the envelope structure,which may cause tremendous problems like huge energy consumption and uncountable energy waste.Currently,projects of historical buildings mainly focus on the protection and restoration of building structure yet ignored the significance of energy-saving retrofitting techniques,which resulted the fact that most historical buildings are still maintained in the situation of high energy consumption and terrible thermal comfort.Meanwhile,historical building is not only the witness of history but also the icon that represents the regional features of the city,it is required to consider both authenticity and sustainability while retrofitting.Therefore,how to keep the balance of maintaining the integrity of historical information and satisfying the practical needs of users becomes the key-point during the whole rehabilitation process.Thus,the overarching goal of this research is to categorize the problem,analyze the reason and its formation,then propose a solution to reach energy-sustainable development based on the example of historical buildings of Hunan University.As a step towards this goal and to bridge the current knowledge gap,this proposal also proposed several energy-saving retrofitting methods of the enclosure structure which can add thermal comfort and reducing the energy consumption without affecting the original function and appearance,then use DesignBuilder to verify the experimental results.
