As the high-speed railway develops rapidly in China,large-scale and giant high-speed rail stations are completed in succession,small and medium size high-speed rail stations used as intermediate terminals and connectivity stations become main type of high-speed rail stations which are built in recent years.As an important part of transport space and open space system in urban,station square not only needs to solve complicated traffic flow,but also need to show city image;however,limited by its scale and grade,design of station square at small and medium size high-speed rail station has not attracted enough attention;furthermore,laggard design idea and insufficient theoretical guidance also make many problems of station square at small and medium size high-speed rail station are exposed,such that unilaterally pursuing for “high-end and high quality” leads to wasting of resources;stream lines cross each other,traffic organization lacks rationality;functional space is single,and lack unified design;expression of regional characteristics is not obvious,city image is not prominent,form of greening is single without humanization.Therefore,deeply analyze the existing problems encountered by station square at small and medium size high-speed rail station,use excellent experience at home and abroad for reference,on this basis,to invent a more appropriate system and find a set of scientific theory to complete the design of the station square;this will have practical significance.Paper focuses on station squares at small and medium size high-speed rail stations;paper will firstly define research status on station squares through summarizing related theories and practice achievements,then adopt various ways such as field visit,questionnaire survey,and interview investigation to investigate the existing situation of station squares at small and medium size high-speed rail stations in Chongqing area,analyze and conclude their existing problems;present specific design strategies by combining a lot of design cases,aiming at provide a feasible guidance methods for design of station squares at small and medium size high-speed stations.Paper will be divided into four parts to study and discuss gradually based on the line of problem presentation---problems analysis---problems solving---conclusion:The first part: introduction is the first chapter.This part will mainly state the reason of topic selection of thesis,research contents and research significance;define related concepts and object of study;study and analyze related theories;summarize theoretical foundation;and state research methods and framework.The second part: fundamental research on station squares at small and medium size high-speed rail stations is the second chapter.Such part mainly recalls development history,theories,practice research status related to station squares at high-speed rail stations at home and abroad,then analyzes space characteristics of station squares at small and medium size high-speed rail stations,and raises main problems encountered by the design of station square at small and medium size high-speed rail stations,which could be summarized as follows: square is oversize,quality of space is low;traffic organization is not smooth,traffic stream and people flow interfere with each other;functional space is single and lacks integrated design;regional characteristic is missing,image is blurry;form of greening is dull and lacks humanization design;all of these will lay a solid theoretical foundation for further researches.the third and fourth chapter of such paper are investigation on living examples and case analysis.Such part will conduct deep research on five station squares at small and medium size high-speed rail stations in Chongqing through observation and analysis,questionnaire survey,interview investigation,etc.,then to systemically summarize the discoverable problems,finally present theories and practices support for the presentation of design strategies by taking practical experience of excellent high-speed rail station cases in China and foreign for reference.The third part: present strategies.Strategies aiming at five existing problems encountered by station squares at small and medium size high-speed rail stations are presented.The fourth part: evidence-based practice is the sixth chapter.This part will take the design of station square at Fengjie high-speed rail station in Chongqing for example to conduct evidence-based practice on the abovementioned theories and design strategies.conclusion is the seventh chapter.Such part will conclude the opinions raised on the paper,then do the expectation on the follow-up studies.
