Marine navigation radar is a basic tool for each type of ship about safety navigation. Marine navigation radar will emit the modulated electromagnetic waves through the antennas with a highly directional character. Then the target, which is located at the two-dimensional space in the sea, is detected, and target information is extracted from the echo.Marine navigation radar can greatly expand our perception of the surrounding environment, which has become one of the necessary equipment of ships at sea navigation.With the high speed development of large scale integrated circuit, digital has become the development trend of marine navigation radar. Compared with the traditional analog radar, digital signal processing system has better performance and a high degree of flexibility. Based on the analog to digital converter with high speed and digital logic device, the echo signal of radar is easy to be sampled and processed.By using a variety of digital signal processing algorithms, we will get the clutter with effective suppression and the target information. It shows that the digital signal processing of radar is better than analog implementation.In this paper, a Marine navigation radar signal processing system based on embedded ARM processor and digital signal processor is proposed and implemented,including the entire process from the target echo signal sampling to showing the processing results in high resolution LCD screen. The development history of marine navigation radar and the current development are introduced firstly, then, the basic operation principle of marine navigation radar is analyzed, including the basic properties of electromagnetic waves, the basic operation principle of pulse radar and the basic principle for target detection with electromagnetic wave radar. On this basis,we put forward the design scheme of ship navigation radar signal processing system.Then give the introduction of hardware design and software design respectively.And each module of the system is introduced, including many aspects such as the system software design method, software structure and algorithm about signal processing and target display. In hardware design part gives the design principle of AD sampling circuit, processors, interface circuits, system power supply, each circuit module and circuit functions are introduced. Focusing on DDR2 SDRAM chip as an example to introduce the theory of high-speed circuit design , PCB(Printed Circuit Board) design, layout and simulation analysis of the circuit. In the software design section introduces the principle of radar algorithm which is involved the radar signal process , then introduce the role of three chip FPGA DSP and ARM, programming of each of the three chip, with an emphasis on the radar display interface design process were introduced. Finally, the function of each module is tested and the design of the system is verified in this paper. The performance of the system is also tested. The project achieves good results and meets the design requirements.
